It works by means of an air cushion created by the pressure of the media pushing the diaphragm upward. This allows air to enter the chamber keeping the diaphragm center at midstroke. During operation, the diaphragm flexes thus absorbing and equalizing the pressure surge. Properly sized and installed, these dampeners provide a virtually surge-free discharge flow.
